In an industry where technology, practices and regulations change constantly, construction professionals need to maintain an ongoing professional development plan. Indeed many professional bodies demand it.

To support this need, the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) created the RIBA CPD Providers Network. This joint venture between RIBA Professional Services and RIBA Enterprises works with manufacturers, suppliers, advisory organisations, training companies and others to develop training materials covering their areas of expertise. All material is independently verified and certified by the RIBA as CPD approved. This recognition from the authoritative RIBA is sought out by those in the construction industry seeking a quality professional development experience..

The benefits

There are currently around 500 providers within the network. Benefits to members include:

  • Opens doors to construction industry professionals – architects, surveyors, engineers, local government, contractors and major end users
  • Be acknowledged as a provider of quality, approved training by the respected RIBA
  • Receive support throughout from the RIBA - from detailed assessment guidelines and meetings with assessors, through to capitalising upon marketing initiatives, advice and networking
  • Use the recognised RIBA CPD Providers Network logo on your literature, website and other promotional material, together with the Assessed Material and Core Curriculum logos on presentation materials
  • Associate your products and services with the latest industry standards and topical issues.

The materials

CPD approved material can include face-to-face seminars, online presentations and websites, videos, CDs and DVDs, literature, open learning, site or factory visits and participation at conferences. All CPD material must be assessed and approved by the RIBA, thus maintaining the quality of the Network for provider and recipient alike.

Every member of the Providers Network can have up to five pieces of CPD material assessed within an initial two year contract period, followed by a further module in each subsequent year. Requirements in excess of this can be discussed and accommodated.

Does this service just deliver to architects?

No. The RIBA's authoritative reputation is recognised by those seeking professional development throughout the construction industry, and there is a broad overlap of topics of interest between architect, quantity surveyor, engineer, contractor and beyond. This obviously covers subjects specifically related to the construction industry, but broader topics such as practice management, organisational development and legislative process are increasingly being sought out.

It is worth noting however that architects do receive one additional benefit – RIBA approved CPD materials accrue double points towards their annual CPD targets.

How are members' presentations promoted?

Providers know their customers best, so we encourage members to actively promote their own presentations. However the RIBA and RIBA Enterprises provide considerable additional support in the form of promotions:

  • On this very website!
  • In the RIBA CPD Providers Network Directory, going to 17,700 construction professionals
  • On www.ribaproductselector.com, with over 155,000 unique visitors per month
  • In key industry titles, including RIBA Journal
  • On www.architecture.com, Royal Institute of British Architects online presence
  • Within quarterly marketing initiatives to specifiers/professionals within the construction industry
  • The opportunity to participate in the successful RIBA CPD Providers Network roadshows, together with high-profile exhibitions and the RIBA CPD Providers Network Forum.
